I bought some Shrinky Dink Plastic to use with my altered art projects. They sell it with the scrapbooking stuff now instead of the kids stuff because people are using it in their scrapbooks. I've only tried making little tags so far. It's fun to do and I've found quite a bit of info on it on the web. Here's a quick video that shows it shrinking.

I have. I love the stuff! Quick tip for you: Make yourself a shrinky ruler (directions below). It won't be entirely accurate, but it is a close guess to how big to start with. The plastic shrinks more in one direction than the other. Don't believe me? Shrink a perfect circle. Mine always come out a bit egg shaped!

Directions for the ruler: Trace a ruler on a piece of shrink plastic. I do the 1/4", 1/2", and the 1 inch marks. And any other notations so I can read the ruler correctly (some numbers). Now shrink it. What you have is a final guide where you can guess how big to make the unshrunk plastic, based on the markings that are on your shrinky ruler. Just count how many inches were used to shrink it down to size.

Have fun! There are loads of YouTube and blog links with great information about it.

Good idea! I made 2 little tags to try it and they turned out great but very little. So I tried making one 5.5"x3" (before shrinking) and it curled up and stuck to itself. I'm using a heat gun, so I tried unsticking it while it was warm but one spot was really stuck.

Hmmm. I have heard that toaster ovens work great, but I have not tried that. I just use my regular oven. I know, people warn about the fumes seeping into the oven and then contaminating your food. Oh well.

The uneven heat is probably what caused it to curl and stick, though in the oven they often curl, too. But my experiments so far have always uncurled and layed back down flat by the time they were done "cooking".

I saw a tutorial about making beads using the heat gun on shrink plastic, but I am not finding it again. Basically they cut a long narrow triangle of plastic, shrunk it with the heat gun. Then still applying heat they rolled it around a metal wire tool into a bead.

yep, I saw something about making beads and rings! But I think I would waste so much plastic trying to get it right.
